FOR ME, CREATING ART IS

MEDITATIVE

It is the entire process of finding inspiration around me, conceptualizing a painting, and deciding which medium to use that brings me joy. Trying to see the beauty in mundane things and capturing the simplicity of nature and its inhabitants is my main goal. The more I paint, it becomes that much a part of my intrinsic nature to look for the special within the ordinary. It is a therapeutic process, to observe, choose, think and execute. I invite you to appreciate that beauty through my paintings, to slow down and fill your senses with colors and patterns found in nature.

MY CHILDHOOD WAS CONVENTIONAL

We lived in the same city and house in India for most of my childhood. As with most Indian households, I grew up celebrating various festivals in our culture. I took cues and learned from my mom when she decorated our home with hand-drawn designs for these vibrant celebrations. However, art quickly took a backseat as I worked my way through college degrees and a career in the corporate industry. During this time, doodling is all I did to keep my interest in art alive. It was only in 2010 that I started focussing on art and fueling the passion to create.

MY CREATIVE CAREER IS EVOLVING

I started pursuing art after a gap of 19 years and it’s a passion I am totally invested in. It allows me to compose simple landscapes, florals, or birds with complete freedom. My artwork represents scenes I have experienced or scenes that have been captured by people close to me. For me, painting is intuitive, organic, adaptive, and focussed. Exploring a variety of subjects in different mediums provides me with a challenge and a creative outlet. I don’t limit myself to working in a specific material - be it watercolor, acrylic, gouache, oil, or a combination.
